Periods 101!

Dealing with Your Period as a Teen

It's normal to feel overwhelmed when your period first arrives as a teen. But, with the right information and support, you can learn to manage it and feel more in control. Here are some tips to help you out:

  1. Know the Facts - Educate yourself about your body and the menstrual cycle. This can help you understand what's happening and why.

  2. Prepare for Your Period - Get the supplies you need, such as pads and tampons, and keep them handy.

  3. Talk to Someone - Reach out to your parents, a trusted adult, or even a friend for support and guidance.

  4. Take Care of Yourself - Exercise, eat healthy, and get plenty of rest. This will help you manage your moods and energy levels.

  5. Change Your Mindset - Rather than viewing your period as a burden, try to look at it as a sign of your growing maturity and an opportunity to practice self-care.

Dealing with your period as a teen can be intimidating, but you don't have to go it alone. With the right knowledge, support, and self-care, you can take control of the situation and make the transition easier.

What to do when your Period comes on at School + helpful tips!

  1. Have an Emergency Kit - Put together an emergency kit with all the supplies you might need, such as extra pads and tampons, pain relief medication, a change of underwear, and any other items that you think might be useful for dealing with your period. Having an emergency kit prepared ahead of time can help you feel more prepared and confident in the event of an unexpected period.

  2. Ask for Help - If you need help, don't hesitate to ask a teacher, school nurse, or another trusted adult for help. They can provide you with the supplies you need and help you find a private place to change or take a break.

  3. Change Your Clothes - If your period has caught you off guard, make sure to change into clean clothes as soon as you can. If you don't have a change of clothes, ask a friend if you can borrow some. I recommend bringing extra pairs of clothes and undergarments and storing them into your locker!

  4. Stay Calm - It can be stressful when your period arrives unexpectedly, but it's important to stay calm and in control. Taking a few deep breaths can help you stay focused and composed.

  5. Stay Positive - It's normal to feel embarrassed or overwhelmed when your period arrives unexpectedly but try to stay positive and remember that you can handle this. With the right preparation and support, you can manage it and get through it.

    Helpful Tips:

  6. Change Your Routine - Staying healthy and keeping your mind and body in good shape is especially important during your period. Making small changes to your routine such as adding in light exercise or a relaxing activity like yoga can help you alleviate some of the discomfort associated with your period. This could also be a great way to take your mind off of the pain and focus on something more positive.

  7. Talk to Your Doctor - If your period symptoms are significantly more severe than usual, it's best to talk to your doctor so they can help you find the best treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. Your doctor can provide you with valuable insight and advice on how to manage your period symptoms and make them more bearable.

  8. Track Your Cycle - Keeping track of your menstrual cycle can help you anticipate when your period is coming and plan accordingly. This could involve noting down the start and end dates of your period, as well as noting any changes in your symptoms. This can be done manually or with the help of period tracking apps.

  9. Try Natural Remedies - Many natural remedies, such as drinking ginger tea or using essential oils, can be used to help soothe your period symptoms. Talk to your healthcare provider to find out which natural remedies could be the best fit for you.

  10. Wear the Right Clothes - Wearing comfortable clothing during your period can help you feel more confident and in control. Choose clothes that provide you with ample coverage, such as loose-fitting pants and longer tops or dresses.

  11. Stay Hydrated - Staying hydrated is key to managing your period symptoms. Drink plenty of water and other fluids, such as herbal teas, throughout the day to help your body cope with the demands of your period. Drinking more water can help your cycle to go off even faster! Try to stay away from caffeinated drinks! Those can make your flow heavier!

  12. Practice Relaxation Techniques - Taking the time to practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or meditation can be beneficial for both your physical and mental wellbeing. It can help to reduce stress and discomfort associated with your period.

How to Talk to your Parents about your Period!

Talking to your parents about your period can be intimidating, but it's important to make sure you have the support you need to manage it. Here are some tips to help you talk to your parents about your period:

  1. Choose the Right Time - Find a time when you can talk to your parents without interruption and when you both have the time to discuss the issue.

  2. Be Honest - Be open and honest about your feelings and concerns. Let your parents know what you need from them and how they can be of help.

  3. Ask Questions - Ask your parents any questions you may have about your period. This can help you gain a better understanding of your body and the menstrual cycle.

  4. Respect Their Views - Respect your parents' views and opinions, even if they differ from yours.

  5. Stay Positive - Focus on the positive aspects of your period, such as how it's a sign of your growing maturity and an opportunity to practice self-care.

Signs that your Period may be coming on soon:

Signs that your period may be coming on can vary from person to person, but some common signs include:

  1. Abdominal cramps - Many people experience mild to moderate abdominal cramps, also known as menstrual cramps, a few days before their period starts.

  2. Bloating - Bloating is a common symptom that can occur before and during your period.

  3. Spotting - Spotting, or light bleeding, can occur a few days before your period starts.

  4. Mood swings - Many people experience mood swings in the days before and during their period.

  5. Fatigue - Many people experience an increase in fatigue in the days leading up to their period.

It is packed with all kinds of tips and tricks that, when followed correctly, can help you look and feel more confident and beautiful. In this blog post, I'll look at some of her best advice for achieving a stunning look.

Skin Care

Lauren Conrad's beauty book emphasizes the importance of taking care of your skin. She recommends using gentle cleansers, exfoliants, and moisturizers to keep skin looking healthy and vibrant. It is also important to opt for natural products, when possible, as they are usually more gentle and less likely to irritate the skin.

Makeup

Conrad's beauty book offers plenty of advice on makeup application as well. She suggests using the right products for your skin type and taking the time to blend the makeup properly for a natural look. When it comes to eye makeup, she advises against using glitter and shimmer, as these can potentially emphasize wrinkles and other imperfections.

Self Care Essentials!

Self-care is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is important to take a break from work, family and other stressors to focus on yourself. One way to practice self-care is by having a self-care night routine. Self-care night routine can help you relax, rejuvenate and prepare you for the next day. This blog post will discuss some self-care night essentials that will help you have a relaxing and enjoyable self-care night routine.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a great way to help you relax and unwind after a long day. Essential oils like lavender, chamomile, and eucalyptus have a calming effect on your mind and body. You can use these essential oils in a diffuser or add a few drops to your bathwater. The aroma will help you feel relaxed, and the steam from the bath will help ease muscle tension and soothe your skin.

Skincare

Taking care of your skin is an essential part of any self-care routine. You can use a face mask, a gentle cleanser, and a moisturizer to help replenish your skin. A face mask can help remove impurities from your skin and leave it feeling refreshed. A gentle cleanser will help remove any dirt or makeup from your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. A moisturizer will help hydrate your skin and leave it feeling soft and supple.

Reading

Reading is a great way to help you unwind and escape from the stresses of everyday life. You can read a book, a magazine or even a blog post. Reading can help you relax and take your mind off things. It can also help you fall asleep faster, which is essential for a good night's rest.

You can also drink herbal tea, which can help you relax and soothe your digestive system. Avoid drinking caffeine, alcohol or sugary drinks before bed, as they can interfere with your sleep.

Journaling

Journaling is a great way to reflect on your day, your thoughts and your emotions. You can write down your goals, your accomplishments and your challenges. It can help you gain clarity, reduce stress and improve your mood. You can also write down things you are grateful for, which can help you cultivate a positive mindset.

Meditation

Meditation is a great way to calm your mind, reduce stress and improve your focus. You can practice mindfulness meditation, which involves focusing on your breath and observing your thoughts without judgment. You can also practice guided meditation, which involves listening to a meditation recording that guides you through a relaxation exercise.

Conclusion

Self-care night routine can help you relax, rejuvenate and prepare you for the next day. Hydration, journaling, meditation and exercise are some self-care night essentials that can help you have a relaxing and enjoyable self-care night routine. Remember, self-care is not just about pampering yourself; it is about taking care of your mental and physical health. So, take some time for yourself, and enjoy your self-care night routine.
