Reflection and Awareness play a KEY ROLE when planning goals!

Making 2023 your BEST YEAR yet; Reflection and Awareness!

First off, to even start to plan your best year yet, you have to reflect on your previous year which was 2022.

Reflection can help you to see what may have stopped you from achieving your goals or it can help you to see what helped you to achieve your goals.

I want you to get out your journal and answer these questions:

  • What were your biggest challenges in 2022?

  • What were your biggest accomplishments in 2022?

  • What helped you to get through 2022?

  • How well did you take care of yourself in 2022?

  • What goals did you achieve in 2022?

  • Which goals did you not achieve in 2022?

  • What emotions did you experience a lot during 2022?

This journal exercise will help you to realize what you may have done wrong what you may have done right and how you can move forward.

Next, I want you to answer these questions:

  • What type of person do I wish to become in 2023?

  • What personality traits do I wish to acquire in 2023?

  • What are some habits that I want to start doing in 2023?

  • What is your top 3 priorities in 2023?

  • What kind of people do you want to surround yourself with in 2023?

  • How can you express more gratitude in 2023?

Answering these questions will build awareness of what needs to change how WHO you want to become in this new year. Remember to make identity-based goals and habits.

Outcome based habits are habits with the sole purpose of doing it for the reward and WHAT you want to do but when you change that into identity based you are able to see WHO you wish to become.

An example would be if 2 people wanted to quit smoking. When tempted with cigarettes one person says No, thanks I’m trying to quit. When the second person is tempted, they say, no thanks I am not a smoker. Can you tell which person has their habit's identity based and which has its outcome based?

Person 1 has an outcome-based habit. Person 2 has an identity-based habit. You may be wondering why is this so important? Well, it’s shown that people who change who they are rather than what they are stick with their habits and rarely have relapses and go back to their bad habit.

This information is from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. In the book he really dives deeper into this.
